Martin Mayhew, former Detroit Lions GM, added to New York Giants front office

It's not exactly a shakeup, but it is a move.

Former Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has been added to the New York Giants front office. Mayhew takes the place of Matt Harriss, who was hired by the Lions, and will carry the title of director of football operations/special projects.

Mayhew was general manager of the Lions from 2008 until he was fired last November with the Lions a disappointing 1-7. He had been part of the Detroit front office since 2001.

Mayhew played nine years as a cornerback in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His playing career lasted from 1998-1996.

When the 2015 season ended the Giants promised to review their front office staff. Replacing Harriss with Mayhew is the only move we know of at this time.

The Giants still have not announced the hiring of those who will serve as assistant coaches for new head coach Ben McAdoo, though you have to believe they will do that soon.
