The New York Giants today made official the placement of running back Shane Vereen on injured reserve due to a re-occurrence of the triceps injury that cost him nine games earlier this season. That move had first been reported on Monday. Also placed on injured reserve was backup quarterback Ryan Nassib, whose right elbow injury flared up prior to Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. Nassib was inactive in that game for the second time this season.

The Giants added DE/LB Ishaq Williams off their practice squad to fill one vacancy. They added running back George Winn to fill the other spot. Williams had been on the practice squad all season. Winn, who has 23 career rushing attempts for 74 yards, spent roughly six weeks on the practice squad before being released last week.

Without Vereen as the pass-catching back, Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins are likely to simply split the running back duties. Veteran Josh Johnson, who has not thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2011, will be the Giants’ No. 2 quarterback.
