The New York Giants trip to the Minnesota Vikings started out promisingly.
A fantastic return by Dwayne Harris set the Giants up with very good field position. The Giants were able to move the ball well on the formidable Vikings’ defense. But untimely penalties blunted the Giants’ momentum and turned what could have at least been a 3 point start to a punt.
That set the tone for the first half.
The Giants downed the punt at the 1-yard line and the defense stepped up to force a quick 3-and-out from the Vikings’ offense. The punt would have set the New York offense up in good field position once again, but Dwayne Harris elected to defy causality and return the punt before he caught it. The Vikings recovered the muffed punt and ultimately scored a touchdown off the special teams turnover.
That too helped set the tone for the half.
Larry Donnell left the field after a vicious hit while blocking and has yet to return. Minnesota will get the ball to start the second half.
