The NFL will re-open its investigation into New York Giants placekicker Josh Brown in the wake of the reports of new information, including Brown’s own admissions, regarding his apparent history of domestic violence.
Here is the statement released Thursday by the NFL:
"NFL investigators made repeated attempts -- both orally and in writing -- to obtain any and all evidence and relevant information in this case from the King County Sheriff's Office," the league said in a Thursday statement. "Each of those requests was denied and the Sheriff's Office declined to provide any of the requested information, which ultimately limited our ability to fully investigate this matter. We concluded our own investigation, more than a year after the initial incident, based on the facts and evidence available to us at the time and after making exhaustive attempts to obtain information in a timely fashion. It is unfortunate that we did not have the benefit or knowledge of these materials at the time."
"In light of the release of these documents yesterday, we will thoroughly review the additional information and determine next steps in the context of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. We will not be making any comments on potential discipline until that time.”
The Giants, per a variety of media sources, said Thursday they had not been aware of the information that came to light on Wednesday.
The immediate question now is whether or not Brown, who practiced earlier Thursday with the team, will be on the plane when the team departs for London later this evening.
When Brown served his one-game suspension for a violation of the leagu’s personal conduct policy, a suspension stemming from his original domestic violence arrest, Randy Bullock replaced him. As a vested NFL veteran, Bullock is receiving a full season’s salary of $760,000 from the Giants already.
Kicker Randy Bullock, who was signed by the #Giants for week 1, does have a passport and can travel. We’ll see if the team makes a move.
