For Odell Beckham, a career day ... and an engagement

Beckham proposes to kicking net as Giants defeat Ravens

NFL: Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Odell Beckham Jr. and the kicking net are forever entwined in New York Giants’ history after the events of the past couple of weeks. So, after scoring what turned out to be the game-winning 75-yard touchdown Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Beckham did the decent thing.

He dropped to a knee and proposed.

“Our relationships growing. I thought we might as well make it serious. I proposed, she said yes,” Beckham said standing in the middle of a media throng after the game. “Me and the net are going to get married sometime soon. Hopefully it all works out. I’m 23, so I don’t know much about marriage. She seems like a pretty nice gal.”

On a serious note, the best game in terms of receiving yardage came just in time for the 3-3 Giants, who needed a victory to keep pace in the NFC East.

Beckham caught eight passes for a career-best 222 yards, with second-half touchdowns of 66 and 75 yards. The first 200+ yard receiving game of Beckham’s career came despite having suffered a painful hip pointer in the second quarter. Six of Beckham’s catches and 211 of his receiving yards came in the second half.

A hobbling Beckham said after the game that the hip “was bad” and that he didn’t know if he would be able to finish the game.

“It was bothering me all game. Even on the last drive I was telling Roger Lewis ‘get your mind right because you’re gonna score the game-winning touchdown..’ “ Beckham said. “I sat there and I just prayed. I prayed for strength … I was able to go out there and get enough adrenaline to go out there and make a play to put us in position.”

Beckham credited quarterback Eli Manning with changing the play at the line of scrimmage on both of his touchdowns.

“This is the most prepared person I’ve ever been around in my life. He puts you in the right positions. He’s making all the throws. We’ve all struggled early this year,” Beckham said. “He kinda basically took us under his wing today and he said he was gonna give it his all. He led us the entire way in Eli fashion. He just put me in position.”

The victory came just in time for the Giants, who had lost three straight.

“Collectively as a team we fought today for every bit of it … Just gotta keep building on it, we’ve had some tough losses,” Beckham said.
