Ravens’ Jimmy Smith ready for “fight” against Giants’ Odell Beckham

Let’s hope that is nothing more than a figure of speech

Baltimore Ravens’ cornerback Jimmy smith isn’t looking for, or trying to provoke trouble with Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants. He said this week, though, that he won’t back down from it.

“All that extra hitting and talking, that’s not going to fly,” Smith said yesterday. “That’s not my game. I like to line up and play. ‘Give me your best shot, and I’ll give you mine.’ But if you hit me after the whistle there’s going to be a fight.”

The only extra-curricular contact Beckham had Sunday against the Green Bay Packers was a make-up hug with a kicking net. Let’s hope that Beckham, after his recent emotional outbursts and with a history of rubbing opponents the wrong way, has finally moved past all of that stuff.

As for a Smith-Beckham matchup, it’s uncertain that Smith shadow Beckham this coming Sunday. If and when they do go one-on-one let’s hope there is nothing more than two players competing until the whistle blows.

“He’s a physical player, and I’m a physical player,” Jimmy said. “So I’m pretty sure we’ll have a good matchup.”
