Smith becomes the sixth name on the Giants' list of coaching candidates, and the fifth potential coach, after Adam Gase was hired to be the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Before becoming the head coach in Atlanta, Smith was a defensive assistant under Brian Billick witt the Baltimore Ravens from 1999 to 2002. From 2003 until he was hired by the Falcons in 2007, Smith was the defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Smith was fired from the Atlanta Falcons after consecutive seasons of 4-12 and 6-10. The Falcons had double-digit wins in four of his first five years.
