Giants coaching rumors: Doug Marrone, Sean McDermott added to list

Former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone and current Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott will receive interviews for the vacant New York Giants head coaching job. The Marrone report comes from the New York Post. The McDermott report comes from the New York Daily News.

Marrone and McDermott bring to five the list of candidates so far identified as possibilities to replace Tom Coughlin. That list includes Giants coordinators Ben McAdoo and Steve Spagnuolo, as well as Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

Marrone was Bills head coach in 2013 and 2014, compiling a 15-17 record. He led the Bills to a 9-7 record in 2014, their first winning season since 2004. Marrone is a native of the Bronx and former head coach at Syracuse, where Coughlin had been a player.

Marrone exercised an opt-out clause in his contract with the Bills following the 2014 season but failed to land a head-coaching job. He spent the 2015 season as assistant head coach/offensive line coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Marrone has been mentioned in connection with several of the current coaching vacancies, including those with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.

McDemott has been Panthers' defensive coordinator since 2011.
