Giants coaching news: Bill McGovern to coach linebackers, per report

One two openings appear to remain.

The New York Giants have a new linebackers coach and it's not Mike Singletary. The Giants are hiring Bill McGovern, whose last job was with the Philadelphia Eaglesaccording to a published report.

McGovern was outside linebackers coach for the Eagles for the past three seasons. Before that, he was at Boston College from 2000-2012. He coached linebackers there his entire time and added defensive coordinator to his responsibility the last four seasons. Yes, that means that McGovern coached Mark Herzlich while at Boston College. He also coached Luke Kuechly while at BC. McGovern had always coached collegiately before heading to Philadelphia.

The only positions reportedly still available on Ben McAdoo's coaching staff are the defensive line and strength/conditioning jobs. The staff, as we know it:

Offensive coordinator -- Mike Sullivan

Quarterbacks coach -- Frank Cignetti

Running backs coach -- Craig Johnson

Offensive line -- Mike Solari

Tight ends -- Kevin Gilbride Jr.

Wide receivers -- Adam Henry

Defensive coordinator -- Steve Spagnuolo

Defensive line -- Unknown

Linebackers -- Bill McGovern

Cornerbacks -- Tim Walton

Safeties/secondary -- Dave Merritt

Special teams -- Tom Quinn

Assistant special teams -- Dwayne Stukes

Strength and conditioning -- Unknown
