Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are your Wednesday morning headlines as the Giants get ready to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys.
"Big Blue Chat" podcast: Season-opening edition
So much to discus, so little time. Pat Traina (Bleacher Report/Inside Football) and I discuss the whirlwind of news around the Giants in our latest podcast. Jason Pierre-Paul, roster moves and a look ahead to Sunday night dominate our conversation. Give it a listen!
Giants headlines
Victor Cruz (calf) appears unlikely to play Sunday vs. the Dallas Cowboys. That's OK with Odell Beckham Jr.:
"I'm telling him that there's nothing you have to prove to me, to anybody else," Beckham said Tuesday night at the premiere of his new commercial for Dunkin' Donuts at MetLife Stadium. "Everybody knows what you're capable of doing . . . As long as he comes back 100 percent, that's where we want him to be and not trying to rush back and then risk anything else happening."
Playoffs? Yes, running back Rashad Jennings is convinced the Giants can make the playoffs:
I truly believe we can make the playoffs.
I’m not looking to be boastful, but we’re a sound team, we’re a complete team start to finish — the first guy to the 53rd, everybody can play.
I haven’t followed what outsiders might be saying about us because I’m so focused in on the things I’m trying to get done, but if they have a skepticism about us I think they will be surprised.
Beckham also believes:
Don't tell rookie safety Landon Collins that the position he plays is a concern for the Giants:
"We're ready," he said. "We're very ready."
Who's better, Beckham or Dez Bryant of the Cowboys? Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News says the title of best receiver in the NFC East is up for grabs.
The Giants will change their long-time pre-game routine this week by having a "Spa Day" Friday and a more up-tempo practice on Saturday.
Newsday looks at all the ways in which the plan the Giants had entering training camp has gone up in smoke.
The Giants worked out 17 players on Tuesday. NJ.com has the complete list.
