The New York Giants will re-sign placekicker Chris Boswell to handle placekicking duties Thursday night against the New England Patriots, the team announced Wednesday morning. Now 36, Brown suffered a bruised leg making a tackle in the third quarter of a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Brown has still kicked in every preseason game, going 7-for-8 in field-goal attempts. During a recent practice, however, punter Steve Weatherford kicked field goals while Brown watched.
Boswell was with the Giants at the beginning of training camp. He was waived on August 16, the same day the Giants signed safety Brandon Meriweather. Boswell was with the Houston Texans during their 2014 training camp. He also has punting experience, but there has been no indication the Giants will ask him to do that on Thursday.
This move will put the Giants at the 75-man roster limit for Thursday once it becomes official.
The Giants almost certainly are not done tinkering with the roster. Here is a look at some players currently available who might interest the Giants.
