Hakeem Nicks a member of the Dallas Cowboys? That would seem, and look, strange, but it could happen. The former New York Giants star is among several wide receivers working for Dallas on Tuesday as they look to replace the injured Dez Bryant.
Nicks, not so long ago the Giants' best receiver, was cut this preseason by the Tennessee Titans. He caught just 38 passes for the Indianapolis Colts last season. In five seasons with the Giants, Nicks caught 311 passes.
NFL teams traditionally hold player workouts each Tuesday throughout the regular season, checking in on players who are available and assessing their options to supplement roster spots as needed. The Giants are holding a workout Tuesday, and some of the names of players participarting have already surfaced.
Linebacker Khairi Fortt, who played three games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, is reportedly working out.
Wide receiver Josh Lenz, who spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks the past two seasons but has never played in a game, is among those working out. Lenz was cut by the Cleveland Browns after catching seven passes and averaging 15.4 yards per catch during the preseason.
Tight end Jake Murphy split last season between the practice squads of the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins. He was recently cut by the Denver Broncos.
