Injury News: Robert Ayers suffers ankle injury in warm-ups

A very early injury takes one of the Giants starting defensive ends

NJ Advance Media for NJ.com-USA TODAY Sports

Despite being announced as the starting right defensive end, it was Damontre Moore who got the start. The New York Giants announced after the start of the game that Robert Ayers suffered an ankle injury during warm-ups.

The injury to Ayers strains a defense that is already thin due to injury. Ayers is expected to be the one of the veteran leaders of the defense and is being counted on to help generate pass rush on the defensive line.

The Giants have yet to release any details on the injury, so we dont know the extent or potential recovery time for the injury. The Giants are certainly hoping that the injury is a minor one and the Ayers will return quickly. With the short week it seems likely that Ayers will miss the final preseason game against the New England Patriots, in the hopes that the rest will mean that he is healthy for the season opener against Dallas

He was in uniform on the sidelines at the start of the game. Stay tuned for more information asbwe get it.
