Could something happen between JPP and the Giants soon?

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is "progressing very well" and is "expected to show up at the Giants facility prior to the start of the regular season," according to a report Monday from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport writes that the Giants still "have not received a definitive update from him, nor have their doctors examined him." He also said that the situation "should come to a head soon."

Pierre-Paul took to Twitter Sunday to joke about his hand, which had a finger amputated following a Fourth of July fireworks accident.

The Giants have not rescinded Pierre-Paul's $14.8 million franchise tag, and appear to have no intention of doing so. If Pierre-Paul signs that contract prior to Week 1 he is under the Giants control and could be placed on the Non-Football Injury list, thus possibly forfeiting the first six week of paychecks from that tender.

Rapoport writes that it is "up in the air" as to whether Pierre-Paul would be able to play Week 1 vs. the Dallas Cowboys. From here, that seems like something the Giants should certainly not count on.
