Giants news: Flowers is the strongest man he's faced, says Moore

New York Giants headlines for Thursday, 8/20.

Steven Ryan-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are some morning headlines for your Thursday.

Damontre MooreEreck Flowers strongest man he's ever faced

At the conclusion of Monday's practice, Damontre Moore got into a scuffle with rookie offensive tackle Ereck Flowers. The ruckus took several minutes to dissemble, as the two players were required to be separated by teammates. And while the third-year defensive end in Moore said he did need to work on his temperament, he had high praise for Flowers.

"I'm not gonna lie,'' Moore said. "I've met some strong guys, but I've never been hemmed up like that. He's one of those guys where I legitimately tried to use both of my hands to get off of him [and couldn't].''

Flowers is an absolute mountain of a man, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing more than 315 pounds. The Giants will need the type of punch he provides on the offensive line to compete with elite defenses.

"It definitely is good to have that guy on your side,'' he said. "Going against him and getting hemmed up like that, I mean, we're teammates, so obviously we all know that we hold back from each other. I can only imagine if he was going full tilt against somebody else. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that.''

Larry Donnell has "a lot of improving" to do"

Larry Donnell on Wednesday assessed his blocking performance against the Bengals as the best he's ever done it in his career. While adjusting to techniques in blocking is a big facet of what will help Donnell become a special player in the NFL, the biggest thing he needs to adjust to and grow comfortable in his big, long frame, according to tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride.

"There’s a lot of improving that is going to have to take place in order for him to be that special player,’’ Gilbride said.

Other than blocking, Donnell's biggest areas of improvement lie in protecting the ball after the catch, determining when to jump or run over a defender and bending his legs.

"It’s just a process. Everyone wants to come in, I admit to it, I wanted to come in and catch passes and be the hero," Donnell said. "That’s one part of it, but being a guy who can stand in there and hold his own in the run game it just as important.’
