The New York Giants are looking for depth at cornerback. Could Trevin Wade, to this point an FL vagabond, provide it? Let's look closer at Wade as we near the end of our player-by-player profiles of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp in just a few days.
2014 Season in Review
Wade was waived by the New Orleans Saints in mid-September. He eventually landed on the Detroit Lions practice squad, spending the second half of the second there. The Giants signed him to a reserve/futures contract at the end of the season.
2015 Season Outlook
Wade's name is never mentioned when talking about competitors for reserve spots behind Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Prince Amukamara and slot corner Trumaine McBride. Yet, the 25-year-old is not a newcomer to the NFL. Wade was a 2012 seventh-round pick by the Cleveland Browns. He played 13 games for the Browns in 2012, was released, then played two games for the Saints in 2013. He has NFL experience both on the outside and in the slot.
Wade would seem to be a long shot. Remember, though, Mike Harris also spent time on the Detroit practice squad a year ago and ended up as a key member of the Giants' secondary late last season. So, anything is possible.
