As we continue our series of player-by-player profiles of the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp in less than two weeks we have arrived at one of those players who can almost certainly be considered a "training camp body." That would be quarterback Ricky Stanzi.
2014 Season in Review
Stanzi spent the preseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed 17-of-28 passes 60.7 percent) for 159 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions and a passer rating of 46.8. Stanzi was released at the end of the preseason. He was out of work until the Houston Texans added him to their practice in mid-December. The Giants signed him to a reserve/futures contract at the end of the season.
2015 Season Outlook
Really? Do we even need to discuss it? Stanzi is the undeniable third wheel on a two-quarterback team. He is on the roster because at least three quarterbacks are necessary to get through the spring and the preseason. The 27-year-old Stanzi has never appeared in a regular-season game after being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Stanzi received only cursory reps during the spring and almost certainly won't appear in a regular-season game for the Giants.
