2015 NFL Mock Draft: Green Bay Packers select Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State 30th overall

The Packers add a much needed linebacker to replace AJ Hawk.

The 30th pick of the 2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft is in!

30) Green Bay Packers GM - griar Pick - Benardrick Mckinney Explanation

There are some nice offensive prospects still on the board, but this pick was going to be on defense all along and no matter what. That is what happens when you spend 0$ on free agent market. In the past two months Packers lost their only serviceable MLB, whatever DT rotation they had, a starting CB and the one supposed to take over him. Because of that I had to pass on Shaq Thompson, who I love and believe would be great opposite Clay Matthews. With top two DTs and CBs gone I got a nice choice between top two ILBs (Kendricks being the other). Ultimately McKinney seems to me as a better athlete, and he’s been on the radar longer, which I value in the crazy hype machine of The Draft.

Raptor's View

I'm not sure the Packers could have gone wrong in choosing any of McKinney, Kendricks, or Thompson. Kendricks is probably the most complete linebacker in this draft, although his size could be a factor for some teams. Thompson is an absolute playmaker, and the Packers are at their best when their defense is getting the ball back for their offense. But McKinney is a big, long, rangy athlete of a linebacker.  He is a bit lacking in coverage, but is a beast going downhill.  If the Packers' defensive line can stay stout enough for him to play freely, McKinney should be a solid pick-up.

The New Orleans Saints are officially On The Clock!
