2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns Select Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

The Cleveland Browns roll the dice on a talented cornerback

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The nineteenth pick of the 2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft is in!

19) Cleveland Browns (from Buffalo)

GM - Giantbuckeye

Pick - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

Explanation

This is a straight BPA selection. The Browns need an OLB but none are rated this high on my board so it came down to Malcom Brown and Marcus Peters. The Browns already drafted Shelton at 12 and have 4 other DTs on the roster so Brown was ruled out and Marcus Peters becomes the pick. Peters is the best corner in the draft IMO and a perfect fit for Cleveland. He excels at press coverage, playing physical man-to-man coverage without much safety help with excellent ball skills and this is what the Browns need at CB to fit Coach Pettine's system. He is also an excellent tackling corner who can come up in run support and help the Browns' beleaguered run defense. The Browns lost Buster Skrine in FA and Justin Gilbert was a huge disappointment and benched as a rookie, so Peters should start right away opposite Joe Haden and give the Browns one of the best CB pairings in the NFL for years to come.

Raptor's View

This is an interesting one for the Browns. They picked up a very high character player in Danny Shelton, but Peters comes with some questions and red flags in that department. On the field, there are few -- if any -- questions about Marcus Peters. In terms of pure talent, he is in the conversation for top corner in the draft. But on a team with Johnny Manziel -- although kudos to him for battling his demons --, Josh Gordon, and Justin Gilbert... Can the Browns afford another character risk?
