The New York Giants, who could be about to lose veteran safety Antrel Rolle, are expected to court potential replacements in Devin McCourty and Rahim Moore, according to Jordan Ranaan of NJ.com.
Rolle said Thursday that he expected to be a free agent when the signing period begins on Tuesday. He reiterated that stance on Sirius XM NFL Radio Friday morning, once again stating he has had no discussions with the Giants. He said he hasn't talked to the Giants since the season ended.
Ranaan said McCourty, who played at Rutgers, could command a salary of $9-10 million. Moore could command $5-8 million per year.
Both McCourty [profile] and Moore [profile] are free safeties. The Giants have young players in Nat Berhe and Cooper Taylor who could fit more into a 'box' safety role.
The draft is also not considered to be deep at safety. Landon Collins, the only player considered by most analysts to be worthy of a first-round pick, is likely to be more of a 'box' safety, as well.
