2015 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

Cedric Ogbuehi is a ridiculously athletic tackle prospect who's destined to fall after an in-season injury.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants need football players. They need football players with athleticism. They need to get faster. Cedric Ogbuehi could do that for them at tackle, moving Justin Pugh inside to guard. He's got incredible foot speed and his length is unbelievable at 6-foot-5, 306 pounds with 35 and 7/8-inch arms.

He comes with a number of questions, however, so let's take a closer look at him.

Pros

- Extraordinary length

- Foot speed is sublime and rivals Andrus Peat for best in the draft

- Plus flexibility

- Tracks and connects with second level targets well

- Has played both left and right tackle in college

Cons

- Cannot anchor well/functional strength is biggest negative

- Waistbends at times

- Weak punch in pass pro, and hand placement often is too far outside shoulder pads

- Suffered an ACL injury that he is currently recovering from.

Does He Fit With The Giants?

Yes. He'd be a better fit in a zone scheme. He's reportedly pretty smart and he's got good awareness. I'm not sure the Giants would be smart in investing a first or second round pick in him however, as he had a pretty bad season in terms of just allowing pressure in pass protection along with suffering an ACL injury.

Final Thoughts

Ogbuehi was touted as a top 3 selection before the college season started. He had a poor season before it was cut short and it was due to the same problem that plagues Luke Joeckel and Matt Kalil. He just doesn't have functional strength. His ability to anchor is just not there. He's super athletic otherwise and his upside is through the roof. However, without that strength, he'll be a disappointment. Is it something that he can develop? Possibly, if he puts in the time. Right now, I've got him as a late-second - early-third round player because of that tremendous upside.
