2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft: Bears take Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson, seventh overall

The Bears move to put some teeth back in their defense.

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

The seventh pick of the Big Blue View Community Mock Draft is in.

The Pick

7) Chicago Bears

GM: Mayhaps

Pick - Vic Beasley, OLB/DE, Clemson

Explanation

The Bears have picked up some depth in free agency, so it's likely they try to go for best player available here. With the two big name wide receivers already gone, they've already got enough weapons on offense to focus on fixing their defense. While there's some push for Danny Shelton here with the defense transitioning to a 3-4 base, new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had success without a big nose tackle in San Francisco. John Fox and Vic Fangio need a dynamic edge rusher since most of their current depth at outside linebacker assumes Jared Allen and Lamarr Houston can seamlessly transition to bringing pressure standing up. Vic Beasley can step in and be the type of difference maker on the edge John Fox had in Von Miller, his first draft pick with the Denver Broncos.

Raptor's View

It's really hard to argue this pick. Switching from what was still basically Lovie Smith's Tampa-2 defense to Vic Fangio's attacking 3-4 is going to need a personnel revamp. The Bears could go for Beasley or Shane Ray here -- the news that Randy Gregory tested positive for marijuana likely knocks him out of the top-10, and maybe even the first round -- and get a dynamic edge rush that they can move all around their defense.
