Ereck Flowers is going to be a hot commodity this upcoming spring because he's one of only a few in a crop of legitimate left tackle prospects. Standing at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, the Miami Hurricane is enjoying a fast rise because of how productive he was in both the pass and run game. He's in the conversation for the first round. Since the Giants need some offensive linemen, let's take a closer look.
Pros
- Accomplished; Three year starter at Miami
- Tremendous footwork. Light on his feet.
- Aggressive run blocker. Some see him as a good drive blocker, but I prefer him as a ZBS tackle
- Quick, strong punch
Cons
- Technique is precise for the most part, but there are lapses.
- Seems to get beat most often with swim moves inside/hands need some work
- Poor base allows stronger defenders to bull rush him backwards; greatest weakness/some balance issues
- Had a prior knee injury so that is worth watching.
Does He Fit With The Giants?
Yes. He definitely has the requisite footwork to become a ZBS blocker in the pros and he is intelligent enough to know when to peel off blocks and when to go help his partner next to him. I think he could possibly be a right tackle, but given his propensity to get bulled backwards, I think he should stay on the left side. He's had some lapses against speed rushers, but he's got the athleticism and work ethic to be a left tackle. If you aren't a fan of Will Beatty, he should probably be on your watch list in the first couple of rounds.

Final Thoughts
Flowers is a rising prospect and he's going to be one that I'm going to move up on my big board as the future goes. His technique is solid for the most part, though he's got some learning to do, and I'm not sure he'll be a starter right away. He's one of the few true left tackle prospects but could easily line up on the right side. His balance issues and strength are really frustrating to watch on film, but watching him move around effortlessly is almost breathtaking. A super high-end developmental player for me, he's worthy of a first-round pick, but you have to have a contingency in place.
