The running game needs help in several areas. One area has to be the actual running backs. The Giants currently roll with the oft injured Rashad Jennings, the impatient Andre Williams, and the intriguing but mysterious Orleans Darkwa. Why not David Cobb. He had a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. Would he be in consideration for the New York Giants?
Must Reads
Pros
- Powerful build at 5-foot-11, 220 pounds. Thick lower body.
- No wasted movements/efficient runner
- Terrific vision, can pick open spots
- Very strong short-yardage ability, keeps legs churning
- Incredibly difficult to bring down. Best not try arm tackles with him!
- Acceleration is above average for power back
- Can catch the football cleanly
Cons
- Long speed is very average
- Cutting ability is decent, but not elite
- Not confident in pass protection, has trouble anchoring and taking the blow
- Only really runs screens, so not much (if any) route running variation
Does He Fit With The Giants?
Depends on if you think he's a workhorse type back. The Giants currently don't have one of those. I don't think Cobb is a workhorse, but I do think he's a very good power back. The Giants have that already in Andre Williams. Cobb won't be a home run hitter for you so I don't think he's a terrific fit for the team, who's actively looking for complementary speed back. That being said, if you're interested in bludgeoning a team to death (and if you are, who am I to say you're wrong!) then he'd certainly be a good pick.

Final Thoughts
Cobb is a good back. The combination of power, balance, and no nonsense running tell you exactly who he's going to be. He reminds me somewhat of Bernard Pierce, who is an efficient runner in his own right. Due to the depth of the position this year and due to the nature of the position itself, I find myself seeing Cobb as a day 3 prospect and he'd be a really nice pickup in the fourth round.
There are many who like him much better than that, going so far as to say he's a second-round pick. I don't see it currently because of the lack of explosion, but again, if you believe he's a workhorse in the Carlos Hyde mold, it's definitely a reasonable assertion.
