New York Giants' fans won't have Markus Kuhn to complain about over the final two games of the season. The Giants Friday placed Kuhn (knee) and linebacker James Morris (quad) on injured reserve. To fill the two open spots on the 53-man roster the Giants added tight end Matt LaCosse and defensive end Brad Bars from their practice squad.
That makes three players the Giants have promoted from the practice squad this week. On Thursday, wide receiver Ben Edwards was added to take the roster spot of the suspended Odell Beckham Jr.
LaCosse and Bars were both with the Giants before the season. LaCosse impressed in the spring before waived/injured and eventually being added to the practice squad. Bars was with the team during preseason and spent the season on the practice squad.
Kuhn missed the season's first three games with a knee injury, then suffered another one in the Dec. 14 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Morris played in six games for the Giants this season and had become a reliable special teamer.
Dropping players from the roster and promoting players from the practice squad to fill spots over the final couple of weeks of the season seems to have become an annual ritual for the Giants. Fullback Nikita Whitlock was also placed on IR this week. Often, these injuries are not long-term ones but with such little time left in the season there is no time to wait for players to get healthy.
