New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul told media on Wednesday that he "would like to finish my career" with the Giants.
We are still, of course, five games away from the end of the regular season. Thus, much can happen between now and then and there is no way to know how the situation between Pierre-Paul and the Giants will play out.
Pierre-Paul is working on a revised one-year contract after his July 4 fireworks accident. He can be a free agent after this season. What would his value be on the open market? That's impossible to know right now.
Pierre-Paul, 26, is a two-time Pro Bowler with a pair of double-digit sack seasons. He has no sacks, just six tackles, three quarterback hits, 11 hurries and a Pro Football focus grade of +5.0 in the three games since he returns to action.
There are really three choices for the Giants.
- Let him test the open market
- Put the franchise tag on him for the second straight year
- Sign him to a long-term deal.
Personally, the one that makes sense to me as of right now is using the franchise tag on him again. It's still impossible to know what kind of player Pierre-Paul is going to be as his recovery from and adjustment to his damaged hand continues.
Based on what you know right now, what would you do if you were the Giants? Vote in the poll and let us know. I will even give you a "too soon to decide" out.
