The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) and St. Louis Rams (5-8) will meet tonight for Thursday Night Football. This match-up will feature two of the top candidates for NFL Rookie of the Year: Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and Rams running back Todd Gurley. Last week, Winston reached 3,000 passing yards, the most by a Tampa Bay rookie in team history. As for Gurley, he leads all NFL rookies with 975 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, all of which he's scored in the past eight games. This contest will also feature a battle between two of the top defensive tackles in the NFL, Tampa Bay's Gerald McCoy and St. Louis' Aaron Donald, who leads NFL defensive tackles with 11 sacks. McCoy has 2.5 sacks in the last three games.
Both teams are likely out of the playoff picture at this point. Tampa Bay had surged during the past few weeks, but a 24-17 loss last Sunday to the New Orleans Saints likely dashed their hopes of making a surprise playoff run. As for the Rams, they've played well in their division (3-1 vs. NFC West teams) but have struggled against virtually everyone else. Before defeating the Detroit Lions 21-14 at home last week, St. Louis had lost their previous four games by a combined 75 points.
