Adam Gettis signing: Giants bringing back familiar offensive lineman

New, comments

Gettis takes the roster spot of Geoff Schwartz.

The New York Giants officially placed offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz on injured reserve Tuesday, replacing him with Adam Gettis. The Giants signed Gettis off the Oakland Raiders' practice squad.

Gettis' name should be familiar to Giants fans. He was with the Giants last season, signed late in the year and added to the 53-man roster at the end of the season although he never appeared in a game.

Gettis was with the Giants through training camp and preseason, sometimes even working with the first team. He is a guard, though he also saw a little time at center during the preseason. He spent much of the season on the practice squad before being let go Nov. 4 and landing with the Raiders.

Gettis played 13 games for the Washington Redskins in 2013. His signing to replace Schwartz was a fairly obvious move since he knows the offense and could likely step in and play immediately in an emergency.

Checking in on ex-Giants

Something we don't do often enough is get caught up on what is going on with former Giants. Here are a few notes in that department.

Running back Akeem Hunt, a speedster who was with the Giants during the preseason, has now been on the active roster of the Houston Texans for two games.

Ex-Giants Stevie Brown worked out for the Raiders.

The Cincinnati Bengals worked out ex-Giant cornerbacks Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson, and added Jackson to their practice squad.
