Giants at Redskins: Geoff Schwartz, John Jerry to switch sides

Giants re-configure offensive line.

Without left guard Justin Pugh (concussion) and center Weston Richburg (high ankle sprain) the New York Giants will not only have John Jerry and Dallas Reynolds in the starting lineup Sunday vs. the Washington Redskins, they will reportedly shuffle the deck and move Geoff Schwartz to left guard.

Jerry, in his sixth season, had never played left guard until this season. He had always been a right guard, starting every game at that spot for the Giants in 2014. Jerry has made a number of appearances at left guard this season, including two starts. Schwartz has extensive experience at left guard, and was penciled in to play that spot for the Giants in 2014 before injuries derailed his season.

We can only speculate on the reason for the switch. Perhaps it is matchup-based. Perhaps it is based on comfort level. Perhaps the Giants want Schwartz next to rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers to help with communication and run blocking.

Let's see how well this works.
