Defensive end Damontre Moore, benched last week after a Week 6 unnecessary roughness penalty against the Philadelphia Eagles, will play for the New York Giants today against the New Orleans Saints. Moore replaces rookie Owamagbe Odighizuwa, sidelined with a hamstring injury.
A stunning inactive for the Giants is middle linebacker Jon Beason, who injured an ankle last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Beason had been listed as questionable. Beason being inactive also explains why the Giants added middle linebacker James Morris to the 53-man roster on Saturday.
Moore leads the Giants with three sacks, but head coach Tom Coughlin said after the penalty against the Eagles, the 16th in Moore's 37 NFL games, that he wasn't sure he could trust the third-year player. Looks like he has to today.
Linebacker Uani 'Unga missed last week's game with a neck injury. With 'Unga possibly still limited by the injury, Jasper Brinkley will start at middle linebacker for the Giants. Jonathan Casillas will start in place of J.T. Thomas at weak side linebacker.
Odighizuwa and linebacker Thomas (ankle) were ruled out on Friday, along with cornerback Prince Amukamara (pectoral) and wide receiver Victor Cruz (calf). The healthy scratches for the Giants will be OG Bobby Hart and DT Louis Nix.
