Jason Pierre-Paul contract details: JPP can earn $8.71 million including incentives, per reports

JPP guaranteed $1.5 million but can earn significant money in incentives.

Jason Pierre-Paul can earn $8.71 million over the final seven games of the season if he meets all of the incentives in the contract he has signed with the New York Giants for the remainder of the season.

Per Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, the Giants have guaranteed Pierre-Paul $1.5 million and will pay him roster bonuses totalling $1.5 million ($214K per game he is active) over the final seven games. Pierre-Paul can earn $5.71 million in sack and playing time incentives.

Pierre-Paul would have earned $14.8 million for the full franchise tag. Pro-rated, the incentives in this deal are roughly equal to the pro-rated value remaining on the franchise tag.

Also, significant is that Garafolo is reporting that the Giants have agreed not to place Pierre-Paul on the non-football injury (NFI) list. Per Garafolo, that means Pierre-Paul will be a free agent at the end of this season though the Giants could once again use the franchise tag.

The terms of this contract also seem to answer the question of the target date for Pierre-Paul to return to action. Week 10 would be a Nov. 15 home game for the Giants against the New England Patriots.

Is this a fair deal for both sides? What are your thoughts, Giants fans?
