Faced with the possibility of having only three healthy cornerbacks for Monday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants Sunday signed added cornerback Brandon McGee to their 53-man roster. McGee had just been added to the practice squad on Wednesday. The Giants waived tight end Jerome Cunningham to make room for McGee.
McGee, 5-foot-11, 203 pounds, was a 2013 fifth-round draft choice of the Rams (149th overall selection), from Miami. He played in 15 games that season, and had eight tackles. Last year, he played in two games before going on injured reserve with a foot injury.
McGee was waived on Sept. 5, signed to the Rams' practice squad 10 days later, was signed to the active roster on Sept. 29, and was waived again on Oct. 2.
Cunningham was on the Giants practice squad last signed. He was added to the 53-man roster for the final two games, but was inactive. He made the team after an impressive preseason, but had only reception. He was inactive the past three games, two of those due to a knee injury.
The release of Cunningham means the Giants have only two tight ends on the roster, Larry Donnell and Will Tye, During the course of the season, they have worked out a number of tight ends -- including Chris Cooley and ex-Giant Adrien Robinson.
