The New York Giants added a third quarterback and a second placekicker to their roster on Wednesday when they signed quarterback Ricky Stanzi and kicker Chris Boswell to reserve/futures deals.

Stanzi, 27, finished the 2014 season on the Houston Texans' practice squad. He has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. A fifth-round pick by the Cheifs in 2001, Stanzi has never appeared in a regular-season game. The Giants always carry at least three quarterbacks through OTAs and training camp to help handle the additional workload. That, likely, is why Stanzi was signed.

Boswell can both placekick and punt, and did both during the 2014 preseason with the Houston Texans. He went 2-for-2 in field goals and punted 15 times for a 44.3 yards per punt average. He missed a pair of 33-yard extra points. He spent time on the Texans' practice squad.

Giants' placekicker Josh Brown is coming off a fantastic 24-of-26 season. He will be 36 in April, however. Boswell could serve to lighten Brown's workload through the spring and summer. He could also provide some protection for punter Steve Weatherford, who slogged his way through the 2014 season with torn ligaments in his ankle and also took a big hit in the season finale. The Giants previously added punter Robert Malone to a reserve/futures deal.
