Giants free agents 2015: Keep or cut Spencer Paysinger?

On a team in need of quality linebackers, Spencer Paysinger has never quite been able to carve out a prominent role for himself on the New York Giants defense. With the four-year veteran, who came to the Giants as undrafted free agent out of Oregon, headed to free agency should the Giants make an effort to keep Paysinger as a reserve linebacker and special teams player? Should they simply let him go and try to upgrade at that spot?

Paysinger seemed on his way to a full-time role in 2013 when he started 10 games and played a career-high 707 defensive snaps. Before the arrival of Jon Beason, Paysinger was the guy the Giants were depending on to call defensive signals. After Beason arrived, however, Paysinger's role decreased.

This season the Giants used Jacquian Williams as an every-down linebacker, relegating Paysinger to special teams. When Williams suffered a concussion, Devon Kennard and Mark Herzlich got the majority of the snaps.

Valentine's View: Cut Paysinger. This seems like a no-brainer. The Giants have made their assessment that Paysinger is not a guy who can or will be a prominent part of their defense. Personally, I've always thought Paysinger was a sound, smart player who should have received a bigger opportunity. It wasn't to be, however. Seems obvious that the Giants should move on, probably looking toward a younger player with some upside.
