2015 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska

Is there any way Randy Gregory falls to the New York Giants?

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Yes, we have to do this prospect profile. There's always times during these profiles where there's a prospect that you can almost certainly rule out making it to the New York Giants. However, we do them just in case. That is what we have in the Nebraska Cornhusker Randy Gregory. Can we hope he makes it to No. 9?

Pros

- Elite length at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds with great arm length and frame to add more weight.

- Elite short area quickness and doesn't lose speed changing directions

- Great motor and hustle

- Monstrous swim move that he doesn't use enough

- Speed to power conversion is best in this class

Cons

- Paucity of pass rush moves

- Sometimes gets pad level too high and loses leverage

- Needs to get stronger to hold up at point of attack against the run

- Burst is inconsistent. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's a touch slow

Does He Fit With The Giants?

Not the greatest fit at 250 pounds but if he's there you take him, anyway. He can add weight and become a very good right defensive end. He's got the extreme length that the Giants absolutely love, he's got the quickness, and he's got terrific speed to power. His production doesn't really say so, but he's disruptive and still learning the game. His athleticism is amazing, as well. Is he Jadeveon Clowney? No. He's close, though.

Final Thoughts

I have serious doubts that Gregory will be even close to available when the Giants select ninth overall. It's always possible since he's very raw, but when comparing similar prospects such as Jadeveon Clowney and Ezekiel Ansah, they both went top five, and that's where I think Gregory heads.
