Former New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell could end up staying in the NFC East. Fewell is reportedly interviewing with the Washington Redskins on Monday for their defensive backs coach vacancy. Fewell interviewed for the same position last week with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Redskins job is open because Raheem Morris, who interviewed for the job as Giants defensive coordinator after Fewell was fired, is leaving the Redskins to take a job coaching defensive backs with the Atlanta Falcons. Morris was passed for the Redskins defensive coordinator job, which went to former San Diego Chargers assistant coach Joe Barry.
Fewell has an extensive background as a defensive backs coach, having filled that role for the Jacksonville JaguarsSt. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears from 1998-2005. As I have written before, he would seem over-qualified for that job after having served as a defensive coordinator and interim head coach (with the Buffalo Bills) with both the Bills and the Giants.
