2015 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami

Let's take a look at one of the best slashing running backs in the draft, Duke Johnson.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

This draft is known for being one of the best running back drafts in recent memory. My favorite running back in this draft (though not ranked highest) is the one we'll be profiling today. That's Duke Johnson, from the University of Miami. He's a 5-foot-9, 205-pound ball of energy. Let's take a closer look at why I like him so much.

- Best pass catching running back in the draft.

- Very good burst

- Strong balance

- Above average cutting ability

- Plus patience/vision

- Is a speed back, but top end speed is not as elite as you'd expect

- Has had some slip ups in pass protection

- Not useful as a short yardage back

Does He Fit With The Giants?

Like a glove. Would fit perfectly with what the Giants want to do. He's not the biggest back, fastest back, or most elusive, but he's a well-balanced prospect who could instantly transform this offense. McAdoo loves moving his running backs around and setting them on routes. Johnson is a natural catcher and can run good routes. He's also somewhat of a home run threat. With his vision, cutting ability, and acceleration, he's capable of ripping off strong runs even behind this offensive line.

Final Thoughts

Duke Johnson is one of many running backs that can help the Giants return to glory. He is as perfect a fit for the scheme that the Giants want to run as part of their offense. Can he be a workhorse type back for a team? I'm not totally sure about that, but as part of a committee, he could rise as the 'Fire' to the Andre Williams 'Earth' and Rashad Jennings 'Wind.' There would be no hesitation from me drafting him in the second round as of right now.
