Happy New Year, New York Giants' fans! Before we look ahead to a 2015 season I know you hope is better than the last two, let's look back at the year that was. Here is a list of some the major headlines and stories you found at Big Blue View during the 2014 season.
January
2 -- Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride retired after 10 years with the Giants, most of those calling plays for Eli Manning. Gilbride's "retirement,' which may or may not have been forced, set off a chain reaction that led to a massive overhaul of the Giants' "broken" offense.
3 -- Veteran running back Brandon Jacobs ended "an amazing run" by announcing his retirement.
3 -- Co-owner John Mara admitted that the Giants' drafts in several season prior to 2014 had not been good enough, saying "We have missed on guys, no question about it."
10 -- Former Giant Michael Strahan was named a Hall of Fame finalist.
10 -- Giants announce that David Wilson would undergo neck surgery.
14 -- Ben McAdoo hired as offensive coordinator as the Giants completely change course on offense. When he was hired McAdoo said "We're going to be an up-tempo, attacking-style offense. We're going to play with good energy. And we're going to rely on fundamentals."
15 -- Continuing their offensive re-structuring the Giants fired long-time tight ends coach Mike Pope and running backs coach Jerald Ingram.
22 -- Pope joins the staff of the Dallas Cowboys.
24 -- Long-time Giants' offensive lineman David Diehl announced his retirement, saying he had "accomplished everything I could possibly dream of as a football player."
25 -- The Giants completed the shake-up of their offensive coaching staff by announcing the hiring of several new coaches.
February
1 -- Michael Strahan is voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
2 -- The first outdoor cold weather Super Bowl is held at MetLife Stadium.
8 -- The Giants begin chopping veteran players by voiding the contracts of Brandon Myers and Corey Webster.
21 -- Giants and Tom Coughlin announce one-year contract extension through the 2015 season.
