New, comments

CBS releases a 256-player mock draft. Where have we seen one of those before?

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, which means our man 'Invictus' should be feeling flattered today. That's because Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports has come out with a full seven-round, 256-player mock draft. That, of course, is something 'Invictus' did here at Big Blue View more than a week ago.

For the sake of comparison, and because I know that all you really care about discussing is which players were selected for the Giants, let's do side-by-side comparisons of the two mocks. Ultimately, the question is which mock do you like better?

The mocks

'Invictus' Trapasso
Round 1 (No. 9) Devante Parker, WR, Louisville Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
Round 2 (No. 40) Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke Damarious Randall, FS, Arizona State
Round 3 (No. 74) Derron Smith, FS, Fresno State P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
Round 4 (No. 108) Za'darius Smith, DE, Kentucky Djoun Smith, CB, Florida Atlantic
Round 5 (No. 144) Tyeler Davison, DT, Fresno State Tyler Kroft, TE, Rutgers
Round 6 (No. 186) Jake Ryan, LB, Michigan Zach Hodges, DE, Harvard
Round 7 (No. 226) Sam Carter, SS, TCU Austin Hill, WR, Arizona
Round 7 (No. 245) Andrew East, LS, Vanderbilt Cedric Reed, DE, Texas

What say you, Giants fans? Which draft would you be happier with? Both drafts address the offensive line and safety positions, albeit in vastly different ways. Personally, I don't have any issue with Trapasso's first two picks. His obsession with taking defensive backs with three straight picks is odd, though. As for Invictus' mock, I will continue to argue that wide receiver is a luxury pick at No. 9 that the Giants can't afford, but I do understand Parker is seen as an impact player. My real problem with Invictus' draft? Wasting a draft pick on a long snapper? Yeah, it's the 245th overall pick, but really? A long snapper? C'mon, Invictus! I thought you were better than that.

Programming note

Pat Traina and I will be taping another edition of what is becoming called the 'Pat and Ed Show' podcast on Wednesday afternoon. As they say the show can be imitated, and it was amusing to see a pair of Giants beat writers launch their own podcast this week, but never duplicated. We will have a special guest today, a well-regarded draft analyst. So, stay tuned for that and I will let you know when it's available.
