2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns Select Danny Shelton, DT, Washington At 12

The Browns add some beef to their defense

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The 12th pick of the 2015 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft is in!

12) Cleveland Browns
GM - BigBlueStocci

Pick - Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

Explanation

Cleveland was awful against the run last season and finished as a bottom 4 rush defense team. Phil Taylor has been a disappointment since being drafted 21st overall by the Browns in 2011 and the Browns lost Athyba Rubin in free agency. Danny Shelton is a steal at number 12 and will immediately upgrade the Browns defensive line. They would love for one of the top three wide-outs (Cooper, White or Parker) to be here but Shelton is a nice consolation prize. Shelton is a load to handle up front and will have an immediate impact on the field.

Raptor's View

I'm not sure how much Shelton brings in the run game right away, but he can certainly penetrate and wreck things in the backfield. I think he'll also benefit from getting to play in a rotation and not have to play 80 snaps a game. That in and of itself could cause a nice up-tick in performance, like it did for John Hankins. I definitely like this pick for the Browns though, and not just for the on the field reasons. With dueling headaches from Manziel and Josh Gordon, Cleveland could use an injection of heart. And that's one thing Danny Shelton has. You can see it in his hustle on the field, you can see it on the sidelines, and if you know his story, he should be good for their locker room.

One thing's for sure, if Pettine turns Shelton loose, he is certainly big enough to bring down Big Ben.

The New Orleans Saints are officially On The Clock!
