The Giants took their first first-quarter lead of the season on a 5-yard pass from Manning to Donnell with 7:43 left in the quarter. A Mathias Kiwanuka strip sack of Kirk Cousins led to a fumble recovery by Cullen Jenkins that set the Giants up at the Washington 24. They took full advantage.
The Giants pushed the lead to 14-0 when Manning and Donnell connected again, this time on a 6-yard scoring pass with 14:21 left in the half. That capped a six-play, 75-yard, 2:44 drive.
The Redskins cut the score to 14-7 on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to Andre Roberts with 8:50 left in the half.
Donnell's third touchdown catch, a 6-yarder, capped a 12-play, 67-yard drive to give the Giants a 21-7 lead with 2:16 left in the half.
