The New York Giants depth chart for Week 2 has one interesting change. Brandon Mosley is now listed as the starting right guard in place of John Jerry, who started in that spot and played all but three snaps Monday against the Detroit Lions.
Mosley, of course, was the starter in that spot throughout the entire preseason until a back injury sidelined him prior to the final preseason game. Mosley was unable to practice for more than a wee and that led the Giants to start Jerry, the former Miami Dolphins guard, in the season opener.
Mosley played only three snaps against Detroit. The Giants did not officially announce that Mosley would start Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Perhaps, though, he will go back into the lineup since he has taken far more first-team reps overall than Jerry or anyone else at the right guard spot.
"I wish there was more continuity and consistency," head coach Tom Coughlin said on Tuesday. "We are going to have to play our way through and there are probably going to be other changes and other things that take place along the way that perhaps even at that point will keep us from having that type of continuity. But it is an effort to get to the best we can be, so that is just way it is."
Jerry received a -2.1 Pro Football Focus grade for his work on Monday, including a team-worst -2.8 run-blocking score. In fairness, Jerry was matched up most of the night with All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
On defense, Jon Beason is now officially listed as the starting middle linebacker. Beason played 44 snaps Monday in his return from a broken foot.
