The only open practice of the week was an eventful one.
It opened with the news that Jerrel Jernigan and Geoff Schwartz would be sitting out today's practice. As well, Daniel Fells and Xavier Grimble sat out practice as well.
No pads for Jerrel Jernigan. Geoff Schwartz also off with a wrap on his knee. Hillis has a small boot of some kind. #nyg

In their places, some rookies got to run with the 1's. After impressive showings in the Hall of Fame game, Weston Richburg (LG), Marcus Harris (WR), and Andre Williams (RB) all got to work with the starters in team drills.

Predictably, the injury bug wouldn't leave well enough alone for the day, and followed up with a scare for Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris fell awkwardly on a deep ball with DRC in coverage. Favoring his right leg, but he's back up + appears OK. #NYG

Looks like just a banged knee for @SoupHarris. He's back to his feet and w team. Limping a bit.
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) August 6, 2014
(By the way, if anyone is wondering at Harris' twitter handle, "Soup" is short for "Super", a nickname given to him by high school teammate Jeremy Maclin. Yeah, that Maclin.)
Harris' scare is followed up by a scary leg injury to Kelcy Quarles
The #giants kneel in middle of field. Say prayer as DT Kelcy Quarles is put on cart with a leg injury
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) August 6, 2014
Quarles did hop into the cart earlier. So was able to move under own power #giants
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) August 6, 2014
The Kelcy Quarles rundown: He's headed for X-rays. Sprained ankle right now.
— Ebenezer Samuel (@ebenezersamuel) August 7, 2014
Quarles played well along side Jay Bromley in the Hall of Fame game, looking quick off the snap and powerful. Hopefully this doesn't keep him down long.
On the positive side of things, Odell Beckham Jr and Jon Beason are both making progress in their return from injury.
Giants LB Jon Beason has ramped up his work on side with trainers. High-stepping. Some backpedaling at a pretty good pace. Progress. #NYG

Beckham doing 100yard runs again.

.@OBJ_3 is playing CB on the scout team during walkthrough. I'd say that's what TC means when he says he is close. #NYG
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) August 6, 2014
Also free agent defensive end Robert Ayers returned to practice today as a full-go.
Amid all the injury turmoil, some Giants actually practiced too
Giants working on no-huddle, Marcus Harris replaces Jernigan as third WR and makes three catches on drive. Cruz talked him up earlier #NYG

Eli picked by Thurmond in deep fade for Cruz. WT3 been haunting Cruz all camp.
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) August 6, 2014
Walter Thurmond has made practice hell for Victor Cruz. Have to think that matchup will benefit both players come the regular season. #NYG
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) August 6, 2014
Manning rolls out and hits Rueben Randle deep down the field for TD on streak. Beat Hosley. Manning threw on run #Giants
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 6, 2014
Henry Hynoski just flattened another defensive teammate on a running play. Didn't see who the player was - just heard it. #NYG
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) August 6, 2014
Charles Brown beat bad by JPP for sack. #Giants

Hynoski got a little yelling from Coughlin for a missed block on Kennard. Gets praise here for huge stick on Adkins #Giants

And we'll wrap up this round up with a couple familiar faces:
