NFL teams can assemble their 10-man practice beginning Sunday at noon ET. Which players will the New York Giants add to their practice squad? First, understand that there are rules about who is and is not eligible to be kept on a practice squad. Those rules were fully explained here.
The basics are as follows:
First, a player must have a minimum of six games - up from the current three games - on a Practice Squad in order for that season to count as one of the player's three permissible seasons of Practice Squad service.
Second, each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of two Practice Squad players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons of free agency credit. Absent this exception, a player who has earned one or more accrued seasons would not be eligible for a Practice Squad unless the player spent fewer than nine games on a club's 46-player active list in each of his accrued seasons.
Here is a prediction on players who the Giants might add to the practice squad today
CB Charles James
DT Kelcy Quarles
CB Bennett Jackson
RB Kendall Gaskins
LB Dan Fox
CB Chandler Fenner
DE Jordan Stanton
TE Jerome Cunningham
S Thomas Gordon
There are nine names on the list above. There will almost certainly be at least one offensive lineman on the practice squad, I just believe he is probably a player who was cut Saturday by another team. I put James on the list, but I doubt he actually is available for the Giants practice squad. My guess is someone picks up the second-year cornerback and adds him to their 53-man roster. Bennett Jackson, drafted in the sixth round, was the only drafted player cut by the Giants. They will almost certainly add him to the practice squad.
