Good morning New York Giants fans!
Today marks the deadline for teams to trim their roster down to the final 53. This is probably the hardest day any NFL coach or executive expects to have on their calender, as they will have to decide who has made the team and who's dream has come to an end, or at least been put on hold.
The Giants have already trimmed their 90 man roster down to 75, including the surprising cut of popular defensive back Charles James, and the... controversial trade of kicker Brian McManus. We will see many more moves made today, and finally get some answers about the roster battles we have watched all pre-season.
Expected and Potential Moves
The Giants are expecting Jon Beason to practice for the first time since breaking his a sesamoid bone in his foot in June workouts. He will likely be coming off the PUP list at some point today.
Update
Jon Beason activated off of PUP. Expected to practice Monday
Giants activated LB Jon Beason from PUP. Team also released veteran QB Curtis Painter, FB John Conner and TE Kellen Davis.

On the other hand, Tom Coughlin finally set a timeline for Geoff Schwartz's recovery from the dislocated toe he suffered against the Jets, saying the expected recovery is 3-4 weeks and that he would "add a few more, just to be safe". That could indicate, as Kimberly Jones reported, that the Giants are considering using the "Short Term IR" designation for Schwartz
As NYG cut roster to 53, I'm told it's likely -- but not certain -- they'll use short term IR on Geoff Schwartz. If so, return = Week 9.

Around the League
31 other teams are making moves as well, and those moves could impact the cuts the Giants make today.
Yesterday the Eagles waived running back Henry Josey, an undrafted free agent out of Mizzou. Josey put together an impressive summer and is a very explosive runner, but also carries injury concerns following a gruesome knee injury in college.
Following David Wilson's retirement I wrote that Josey could be a Cut Day target to -- in some part -- replace Wilson's explosiveness.
Also, the league handed down a 9 game suspension to Aldon Smith. Important because the St. Louis Rams, who recently lost Sam Bradford for the season, play the 49'ers twice in that stretch.
They could be looking to trade for a quarterback, and the Giants' Ryan Nassib has been one of the league's best quarterbacks this preseason, and has completed more deep passes than any other QB in the league.
