New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Monday that the team's starters will play 15-18 snaps Thursday night in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots. Some teams around the league won't play starters at all in the final preseason game. The Giants, though, need the work despite their gaudy 4-0 preseason record.
"It's a long way until the Monday night game," said Coughlin, referring to the Sept. 8 season opener vs. the Detroit Lions.
Odell Beckham Jr. will not play Thursday due to his hamstring injury. "How about practicing before you play?" Coughlin said, adding that he is "afraid to speculate" on when Beckham might return to practice.
"I think he's very frustrated. His whole personality is held within check because he's not able to do the things that he wants to do," Coughlin said of Beckham.
Offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz is seeing foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson Monday afternoon to determine the severity of his foot injury.
Other Injuries: Charles Brown (shoulder), James Brewer (back), Brandon Mosley (back), Trindon Holliday (hamstring) were among players who did not practice. Prince Amukamara (hamstring) did some work.
"We need the guys that we have back," Coughlin said. "We're not going to find any new people."
Coughlin said the team's 4-0 record in preseason is unimportant.
"The only thing that matters is the regular season," Coughlin said. "What is important about preseason is improvement, production, feeling like people are in the right spot.
