After missing three games with a shoulder injury veteran defensive tackle Mike Patterson will make his preseason debut for the New York Giants on Friday night.
"I'm real excited just for the fact that I haven't had a chance to be on the field yet," Patterson said. "I'm really excited to see where I'm at and working it out from there."
Patterson, a 10-year veteran, began training camp as a starter alongside Cullen Jenkins. Second-year man Johnathan Hankins has been starting in Patterson's place, something it seems likely he would have done eventually, anyway. Regardless of whether he starts or not, the Giants will definitely welcome Patterson's return to their defensive line rotation.
Not Playing
Here are the Giants who won't play against the Jets.
CB Prince Amukamara (hamstring), RB Peyton Hillis (foot/ankle), WR Odell Beckham Jr., (hamstring), KR Trindon Holliday (hamstring), CB Jayron Hosley (foot), OT Charles Brown (shoulder), OL James Brewer (back), TE Xavier Grimble (hamstring).
Holliday has missed the entire preseason and Hillis has been out since the first preseason game. Both might have cost themselves roster spots. Grimble has been out since very early in training camp and probably now has little chance of even earning a spot on the practice squad.
