The New York Giants selected Notre Dame cornerback Bennett Jackson in the sixth round, 187th overall. Does Jackson have a realistic chance of making the 53-man roster? Let's look at Jackson as we continue our player-by-player profiles of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp on July 21.

2013 Season In Review

Jackson had 64 tackles, two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble for Notre Dame.

2014 Outlook

The Giants are deep at cornerback, having signed three veteran free agents and possessing a total of seven corners with NFL experience. So, where does Jackson fit? If he has any chance to make the roster it will be because of his prowess on special teams.

Jackson projects as a nickel/dime back at the next level and would be most effective backed off the line of scrimmage. His bread and butter in the NFL will be on special teams. - Draft Insider

Jackson doesn't look like a future NFL starting cornerback, but his experience on special teams should serve him well and allow him to stick around at the next level. -- CBS Sports

Jackson is probably ticketed for the practice squad as a rookie, but a guy with a special teams' background is nice to have there. Injuries generally cause special teams' issues because teams wind up with players on those coverage groups who aren't suited for, or experienced in, those rules. It would be nice to be able to activate a player late in the season who is well-versed in kickoff and punt coverage.
