We haven't paid much attention to the 2014 World Cup here at Big Blue View, but those of you who are following the action know that today is a huge day for the United State team competing in Brazil. A win over Portugal Sunday (6 p.m. ET, ESPN) and the USA qualifies to move out of the group stage and into the Round of 16.
The U.S. would also be in good shape with a tie today vs. Portugal. That would mean a win or tie Thursday against Germany would put the U.S. through to the next round. A loss today could put the U.S. in a position where they would have to beat Germany, the team considered the best in its group, on Thursday to advance out of the qualifying round.
Portugal features Christiano Ronaldo, considered to be possibly the best player in the world.
Other matches today include Russia vs. Belgium (noon, ESPN) and Algeria vs. Korea (3 p.m.).
