The New York Giants report for training camp on July 21, a little over a month from now. Between now and then we have been breaking down the 90-man roster the team will take to camp. Today, let's get to know linebacker Dan Fox.
2013 Season In Review
Labeled as an intelligent, tough and durable backer, Dan Fox played both MIKE and WILL in Notre Dame's 3-4 defense last year. After suffering a knee injury his senior year, Fox finished the season with a team-high 95 tackles in 13 games. Five of Fox's tackles went for a loss, including one sack. He recovered a fumble, intercepted two passes and broke up one pass.
2014 Season Outlook
With Jon Beason possibly not ready to begin the regular season, a good training camp could give Fox a chance to make the Giants' initial 53-man roster, especially if he shows value on special teams. The Giants love their versatile linebackers and Fox's ability to play both MIKE and WILL earn him a soft spot in defensive coordinator Perry Fewell's heart. If Fox fails to make the 53, he could wind up on the practice squad.
Here is a quick scouting report from Draft Insider:
Fox is a hard-nosed football player who constantly made positive plays for Notre Dame. He comes with limited upside but plays with a special-teams mentality and could be effective backing up at inside linebacker.
